Let’s talk about something that quietly drains your energy: clutter. And not just the kind piling up in your kitchen or inbox — we’re talking about mental clutter too.
When your space feels chaotic, your mind often follows. Clearing out even small areas can have a surprisingly big impact on how calm, focused, and in control you feel. I can confirm this as I have just cleared out my wardrobe and bedroom drawers (ready for shopping!).
How clutter affects your energy
Clutter can:
Create a constant sense of “unfinished business”
Distract you from tasks and slow productivity
Increase stress and lower your mood
Make it harder to wind down and relax
You don’t need a full day or a home makeover. Just 10 minutes can help shift your mood and give you a sense of control again.
Quick wins: The 10 minute declutter
Set a timer and pick one of these:
Your bedside table
One kitchen drawer
Your desktop (physical or digital!)
That one corner of the living room that collects clutter
Your handbag
Put on music, move fast, and stop when the timer goes off. Instant win!
Declutter your mind too
Try a “brain dump”:
Set a timer for 5–10 minutes
Grab a notebook or open a blank doc
Write everything on your mind — tasks, worries, random ideas
No editing or organizing — just let it out
This clears space in your head and helps you refocus.
This week's challenge:
Pick one space and one mental clutter habit to declutter this week. Think of it as spring cleaning for your nervous system (or an Autumn cleanse!).
